entreprenuerial Ecosystem Study and Mapping of the Carribean, 2022
The "Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Study and Mapping of the Caribbean, 2022" was conducted by Damian McIntyre, Kasey Dunn and their team while Damian was working at TBR Lab. The study was first started as part of Damian’s dissertation during his Master’s program, where Kasey was also a student, and the team furthered the project while working at TBR LAB. The study presents an in-depth analysis of the entrepreneurial landscape across the Caribbean. It delves into the various challenges and opportunities present within the region, highlighting the pivotal role of data in driving ecosystem growth. With contributions from both seasoned and emerging researchers, the study garners insights from a range of stakeholders, including testimonials from prominent figures like Irene Arias Hofman of IDB Lab and Kirk-Anthony Hamilton of Tech Beach Retreat Inc. The report emphasizes the Caribbean's potential for economic transformation through innovation, underscoring the need for increased visibility and support for the region's entrepreneurial activities. It serves as a catalyst for change, aiming to bolster the Caribbean's position as a market ripe for investment and innovation.
LAndscape & Literature review and visualization
In a strategic initiative for the Development Bank of Jamaica, Damian McIntyre, contracted by Tech Beach Retreat Inc as Project Lead and Kasey Dunn, contracted by TBR as a Research Analyst collaborated with the DMZ in Toronto to undertake a pivotal project encompassing a Landscape and Literature Review, alongside a sophisticated visualization of the Jamaican Entrepreneurial Ecosystem. Completed on June 30th, 2022, as part of the Boosting Innovation Growth and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems (BIGEE) project, this analysis aimed to identify critical gaps and propose actionable solutions within Jamaica's innovation landscape. The project's visualization component was particularly noteworthy, offering a dynamic and interactive representation of the ecosystem. This innovative mapping detailed the relationships, sizes, and impact levels of various stakeholders, including private sector entities, academic institutions, and financial institutions, providing a clear overview of the ecosystem's structure and connectivity, or lack thereof. It revealed the existing silos and pinpointed opportunities for fostering stronger collaborations across the triple helix model of academia, industry, and government. Through this comprehensive approach, combining in-depth analysis with visual insights, the project offered a roadmap for enhancing coordination, support mechanisms, and funding strategies to bolster Jamaica's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
